St Stephen's Hall recalls the decorative splendour of the royal palace and the losses that transformed Castle Hill in the twentieth century.
A royal interior from the turn of the century
The room originally belonged to the expanded Royal Palace complex and was designed to celebrate Hungarian craftsmanship and the legacy of the country's first king. Rich timber decoration, ceramics and historical ornament gave the room a ceremonial character.
Destruction and recreation
The palace suffered severe wartime damage, and the original hall was lost. The reconstructed room is presented to visitors as part of the Castle Museum's palace heritage, with a separate exhibition and ticketing arrangement from other museum spaces.
