History of Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center
The Robert Capa Centre celebrates the contribution of Hungarian photographers to international visual storytelling, especially documentary images.
A centre named for a Budapest-born photographer
Robert Capa, born in Budapest in 1913, became one of the most influential war photographers of the twentieth century. The photography centre opened during the centenary year of his birth to recognise photographers and the power of their work.
The camera as historical witness
The centre presents contemporary exhibitions, often including press and documentary photography. In these images, history is not only a collection of dates but the records of how individuals witnessed moments of conflict, change and ordinary life.
